This standard describes a system for classifying the degree of protection of enclosures of electrical equipment. Proposed by the European Committee for Electronic Standardization, the protection levels of electrical equipment enclosures are divided into many categories. According to different numbers, the protection levels of products can be quickly and easily determined.
To put it simply: the first digit after IP is for the protection of solid foreign objects, and the second digit is to prevent water from entering the equipment and causing damage.
First look at the first digit (dust-proof level)
0: No protection, no special protection for outside people or things.
1: Prevent the intrusion of solid foreign objects with a diameter greater than 50mm, prevent the human body (such as the palm) from accidentally touching the parts inside the appliance, and prevent the intrusion of foreign objects with larger sizes (greater than 50mm in diameter).
2: Prevent the intrusion of solid foreign objects with a diameter greater than 12.5mm, prevent human fingers from touching the parts inside the appliance, and prevent the intrusion of foreign objects of medium size (greater than 12.5mm in diameter).
3: Prevent the intrusion of solid foreign objects with a diameter greater than 2.5mm, and prevent the intrusion of tools, wires and similar small foreign objects with a diameter or thickness greater than 2.5mm and contact with parts inside the appliance.
4: Prevent the intrusion of solid foreign objects with a diameter greater than 1.0mm, and prevent the intrusion of tools, wires and similar small foreign objects with a diameter or thickness greater than 1.0mm and contact with parts inside the appliance.
5: Prevent foreign objects and dust. Although it cannot completely prevent dust from invading, the amount of dust invading will not affect the normal operation of the appliance.
6: Completely prevent the intrusion of foreign objects and dust. The dust is banned. The dust cannot enter the entire diameter of the object and cannot exceed the gap of the shell.
Look at the second digit (waterproof level):
0: indicates that the device has no special protection against liquids
1: Prevent water droplets from immersing. Water droplets falling vertically (such as condensation) will not cause damage to the equipment.
2: When it is inclined at 15 degrees, it can still prevent water droplets from entering. When the device is tilted from vertical to 15 degrees, dripping water will not cause damage to the device.
3: Prevent the sprayed water from immersing in the rain, or prevent the sprayed water from entering the equipment in an angle less than 60 degrees with the vertical angle to cause damage.
4: Prevent splashing water from entering, and prevent water from splashing in all directions from entering the equipment and causing damage.
5: Prevent the sprayed water from entering, and prevent the water sprayed from the nozzle from all directions from entering the equipment and causing damage.
6: Prevent the ingress of large waves. Equipment installed on deck can prevent damage caused by the invasion of large waves.
7: Prevent the water from immersing when immersed in water. The equipment is immersed in water for a certain period of time or the water pressure is below a certain standard, which can ensure that no damage is caused by immersion in water.
8: Prevent the water from immersing when sinking. The equipment sinks indefinitely under the specified water pressure to ensure that it will not be damaged by the immersion.
